The period is the 1950s and oh the familiar sights to behold (I didn't come on the scene until the 70s but love the 50s era)! I had the unique experience as part of the Eastman (remember Eastman Kodak?) Photography Club to visit the property of a man (a very wealthy man, mind you) who has recreated an entire city centered around the 50s time frame in his own back yard. He only opens his property to the public once a year, but took exception with the photography group for a private showing. So many picture worthy details, with no expense or item left out in order to fashion an entire school, movie theater, diner, home, church, airplane hanger, amusement park, jail, general store, and vehicles galore! Not only were buildings present, but all of the paraphernalia to complete them as well.
We began fairly early that morning...notice the fog still clinging in the air.

Keep in mind, this was not some antique junk yard or museum, it was a complete city in a backyard! Unreal.

Such a great place for picture taking. This era with the colors, patterns and designs made for multi-dimensional and contrasting subject matter. Still life photography is both fun and a challenge...to find a shot worth taking is sometimes difficult but the lack of movement make variables such as blur much less of an issue, especially with the right lighting. Over all, a great experience and a place to practice photo taking skills.
I'm still in awe over this property. The attention to detail was incredible, down to smallest article. Hard to imagine anyone having the time and focus to devote to such a personal task. I'm having trouble finding knick-knacks for our own home decor, much less finding items to fill an entire city! Hope you enjoy a few of the memorable details as I did.
