Yes, we're getting ever closer to being able to bring chickens to the Elkins homestead! Rather than build a coop from scratch we decided to use the barn and outfit one of the several stalls for their roosting and let them free range during the day. Since the barn was previously used for horses we were left with their essence or should I say evidence...yep...poop...LOTS of poop. SO, the kids and Joe got the prestigious job of shoveling huge piles of it. Not bad for a days worth of exercise. We call it PT country style...aka the Elkins Exercise Farm Plan. Actually we jokingly tell friends and family members who speak about needing to exercise, to come by and we'll gladly help them get in shape, ha! The month we moved one uncle boasted on his ten pound weight loss on this plan. It's great, really!
Our oldest and chief poop mover!
We've told him this is his football conditioning. Farm boys rock!
Bicep curls...
Nesting boxes, compliments of hubby and his fabulous wood working skills.
Roosting bars that are hinged so we can scoop MORE poop.
Some farmers just want to look the part...
I think red heads have more fun.
What's that smell? In the trailer I mean...
Not sure what the "four" means, she's really five.
Finding the beauty in shoveling poop is easy when you have little faces around.
