River Fun

Had a great time kayaking on the Holston River with my daughter recently.  Originally had planned the outing with a friend for some adult time, but plans changed and it became a mommy/daughter trip.  Anna has kayaked several times with other adults but never by herself, so this was definitely a coming-of-age activity.



The route was unguided and roughly three hours worth of paddling.  No rapids but some areas of rough water where the level was low, causing a few laughing moments of trying to get unstuck on the rocks. Below photo is of Anna stuck waiting for me to rescue her.  Also, feeling a little annoyed that I choose the opportunity for a Kodak moment.




Ahhh relaxin'.



It's so awesome to have my girl physically able to hang for some adventure.  She's a toughie and will probably be taking ol' mom on in future activities.  I aspire in life to always be as fit as my kids, ha!



We did get out to explore a little.



Scenery was beautiful with overpasses, turtles, birds and fish.  The Holston River is a great fly fishing spot for trout.  We hope to try some kayak fishing next time when dad can join us.






We were the only people traversing the river that day, but many like to tube during the summer months.  This particular day weather was warm and overcast, making for great water travel.



Railroad overpass reminiscent of the New River Gorge in WV where Joe and I did some white water rafting.  People would come to the Gorge bridge and BASE jump because it was so crazy deep.  There's even a celebrated bridge day during October in it's honor.  Cool event if you're ever in the area.
