Survival Bracelets

In keeping with some of the information I've posted on survival, thought I'd share a venture initiated by my eleven year old son.  Taking the interest in making and selling paracord bracelets.  They apparently are very useful items.  Super strong fiber used for parachutes... so you know they are heavy duty.  Wearing the bands are not only fashionable among youngsters, they can be used in a variety of situations.

Here is some background:

The paratroopers of World War II would use 550 paracord as suspension lines for their parachutes knowing that once they landed in the battle zone, that same cord would be an essential tool in their survival arsenal.  Here are a few of the things that paratroopers used their 550 paracord for:

• as a tourniquet in first aid situations
• to repair equipment
• to replace shoelaces or boot laces
• to repair torn or ripped clothing, sleeping bags, tents
• to weave into a net for fishing
• to use as webbing to carry supplies or food
• to use as fishing line
• as a clothesline for drying wet clothing
• to make traps to catch an animal
• to tie up an enemy soldier (although unless you are a soldier active in a war zone, we don’t recommend that you do this.  Even though the brave paratroopers of World War II did just that!)

He's also created a blog showing pictures of the bracelets he has made.  Looking to expand his color schemes for girls he's taking requests for specific colors.  I'll post a few in the future of the variety.
