It's very exciting to finally have the wonderful space to launch the homeschool room of my dreams! Essentially a blank slate of opportunity awaiting the perfect learning atmosphere (for us...that is). Yikes! It's also very intimidating...as where to begin? In Knoxville our learning space was mostly the kitchen table and our bedroom that shared many homeschool books, curriculum, etc. The children stored their work books in a small cabinet so that things could be tidyed up in time for meals. The space had to be efficient and clutter free, which worked well...it was just cramped. My vision has always been to have a cozy and inviting area with lots of bright colors. Reading nooks, craft tables, personal storage, science experiment area and places to display art will be highlights of the room.
The new den is a perfect area for this, but as it stands there is so much work to be done. Almost overwhelming to be starting from scratch as the possibilities are endless. Accommodating growing needs for personal space and individuality are challenges as the room also has to be coordinated with the flexibility of being a den or sitting area for family and hanging out. Below is the "before" photo of the rudimentary makings of what I hope will be a fabulous part of the house where many useful hours will be spent. Stay tuned for the final result in the not too distant future. Also, keeping within a reasonable budget is part of the goal, so we'll see what evolves...wish me luck!!
