Had a great field trip with our homeschool cooperative recently at Bays Mountain in Kingsport, TN. The girls and I participated in a private planetarium show. This state-of-the-art planetarium theater put on a demonstration of the solar system, universe and star-filled sky. The three-dimensional projection made everything so life-like! So much so that Lilly got scared thinking Jupiter was going to squish her, ha! While we're not currently studying astronomy with our curriculum we will cover it later this year and hope to take advantage of the astronomy club when it reconvenes this spring. The observatories are led by local astronomy professors available to answer questions and instruct the public in their passion. Our coop group had private instruction from the staff, which made for great learning!

While we were busy, fifth graders and up went on an orienteering excursion. Right up Noah's alley as he's been versed in compass using via his dad for a while now. They had to find three points using maps and compasses in the dense woods of the mountain in groups of three. The organizer stayed hidden in the woods, while the teams searched...just in case.
