You know, there's no better trash TV than the recent presidential debates. No offense to the die-hards who watch thinking...hoping that they'll discover some sliver of truth and reason to justify waiting in ridiculously long lines in the future polls. Everyone wants a savior...
I'm speaking from a totally different vantage point than most when evaluating the authenticity of the election process. One as an objective outsider that I used to not be.
Coming from a highly political republican family, where we entertained such dignitaries as House Majority Leader Dick Army at a rally where my singing mother even performed a patriotic tribute. My father, a once loyal Rush Limbaugh listener. Seriously, the man owned the coffee mug, and taped the shows daily so he could listen the next day while driving and was a regular caller and subscriber to the Limbaugh Letter! Made for interesting dinner conversation. Personally, I attended a GW Bush rally in Huntington, WV during the campaign and saw the soon-to-be president myself! Then proceeded to stay up for DAYS watching the "hanging chad" soap opera. Still can't believe I actually lost sleep over that.
I present my political vitae to say that I know where folks are coming from, but to also say that most really do not understand politics at all. I won't go into how I came to this understanding, but it left me with a filter to which I view the entire presidential circus today.
Picture this...remember the Wizard of Oz? Cool movie. The wizard everyone feared and respected with the large head and big voice. What about the man behind the curtain? Dorthy exposed the wizard for the little, unassuming man that he was, but who controlled everything...behind the curtain. Well, think of the president like you would the big-headed figure.
Perhaps a little bit better looking, sweeter talking...and not green.
The front man is at the center of attention who gains all of the country's respect or dismay, but the reality is that the president is not the one in control. There are men/women behind the curtain and it's not congress or the American people. They are nameless but have names...identities but no one knows them publicly The ones who pull all the strings, make all the decisions and CHOOSE who will be president whether America likes it or not. The various presidential candidates have to pass many popularity contests behind the scenes of corporate interests, banking interests (local and abroad) and secret society interests (opps...there I go talking all conspiratorial again). All BEFORE they will ever show up on a voters ballot.
The democratic vs republican game is really just that. It's a diversion for the public but all have the same mob bosses. There is different rhetoric to keep us fighting among ourselves over such ills as social security, guns, welfare, homosexuality, wars...
The president is chosen to take the brunt of the action while the real leaders behind the scenes run the country. If a president dares leave the cult of popular opinion by those who really elected him....he will not be re-elected or worse... assassinated.
Also, voting has gone the way of the dinosaur. The hanging chad incident was merely an excuse to push electronic voting to ENSURE that votes could be altered. Interesting free documentary on the subject: Hacking Democracy...http://www.hulu.com/watch/192687. Watch while you still can!
It's really not about us anymore...it's about the greedy elite who rule our country and the world.
Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but after reading all the commentary on each candidate and the seriousness to which most people are still snowed by the process, felt imparting a fresh outlook on the subject was needed.
Wake up America... and really begin understanding your government. Invest your efforts in things you can actually do something about. Grass roots movements are where you can make the most difference. Use this purpose to influence your circle: at church, neighborhood, friendships, workplace, etc. The government is too big and too corrupt at the federal level to waste your efforts there. The only thing we can change is how WE behave and that of our families. Vote with your dollars and personal choices, work toward becoming more self-sufficient. Hope and change will ultimately reside with those who are truly aware of the broken system. Until then we'll have more of the same...stuck thinking we can make a difference voting on the lesser of the evils.
There is true hope though...and it won't be under THIS current form of government. We must look forward to YHVH's coming rulership on this earth. When everything will be ruled justly and fairly. Where true PEACE on earth will reside. Until then we must do what we can and occupy until HE comes.

America is a Constitutional Republic . . . NOT a Democracy

Many people are under the false impression our form of government is a democracy, or representative democracy. This is of course completely untrue. The Founders were extremely knowledgeable about the issue of democracy and feared a democracy as much as a monarchy. They understood that the only entity that can take away the people's freedom is their own government, either by being too weak to protect them from external threats or by becoming too powerful and taking over every aspect of life.
They knew very well the meaning of the word "democracy", and the history of democracies; and they were deliberately doing everything in their power to prevent having a democracy.
In a Republic, the sovereignty resides with the people themselves. In a Republic, one may act on his own or through his representatives when he chooses to solve a problem. The people have no obligation to the government; instead, the government is a servant of the people, and obliged to its owner, We the People. Many politicians have lost sight of that fact.
A Constitutional Republic has some similarities to democracy in that it uses democratic processes to elect representatives and pass new laws, etc. The critical difference lies in the fact that a Constitutional Republic has a Constitution that limits the powers of the government. It also spells out how the government is structured, creating checks on its power and balancing power between the different branches.
The goal of a Constitutional Republic was to avoid the dangerous extreme of either tyranny or mobocracy but what exists in America today is a far cry from the Constitutional Republic our forefathers brought forth.
