When the previous owners of your home leave the ugly AC return duct in your girls' closet...make it into a tree. Ta da!!!
The girls' room in our home is the largest bedroom of the house. They also have the largest closets which is perfect since the three shall be sharing the room until they leave the nest. However, this one closet that serves as their playroom and hanging closet was always a little disappointing. Loved the space but hated the silver duct work from ceiling to floor. This room apparently was once a master bathroom which also concealed behind the duct work a tacky medicine cabinet. Not really wanting to engage in any sort of heavy remodeling at this time, I pondered over how it all could be concealed with minimal expense and labor.
Figured the pole could be covered or accentuated choices being: a decorative candy-cane type pole or a tree. The informal survey of my daughters and my mother-in-law voted TREE. So, tree it shall BE!
Decorative vinyl tape is the bomb and fortunately I was able to find brown. Ripped into strips that appear as bark, my Lilly and I were able to cover the entire pole with only two and a half roles. Topped with some faux greenery and viola! A duct-work transformation. And NO this was not on Pinterest, so I can claim it as an original, ha!!
The ugly medicine cabinet had it's own make-over into a playhouse window. Found some fairly inexpensive gingham fabric at Ben Franklin and some eyelet lace...took me all of about an hour to sew. Attaching a cafe rod to the cabinet conceals the entirety very nicely.
The occupants love their little playhouse with it's few "authentic" finishing touches.
