My Cousin on the Today Show!!
As I wind down the new posts for this blog...I had to share this really cool event!!
My cousin Mindy is on the Today Show for the next eight weeks on the Hoda and Kathy segment. The nutrition expert Joy Bauer is featuring six women who are on the road to live healthier lives. A competition of two teams and whoever completes the most health challenges wins!
Today is the first of the segments where they introduce the contestants. You can watch Mindy at 5:40 of the 10 minute clip. Mindy is one of the daughters of my dad's only sibling. Their family has had such a such an unfortunate bout of tragedy. Soon after my dad died of brain cancer in 2003, the oldest daughter Jorie died of what was termed "breast cancer" but they couldn't really identify it. Aunt Barb had just been through the death of my dad...literally by his hospital bed when she had to bury her child a year later. Horrible. Then Barb herself was later diagnosed with Leukemia and died a few years later. Uncle Loman soon followed from other health issues. Cancer is a beast that plagues our family.
Despite the loss, this side of the family is best known for their creativity and fabulous sense of humor. Aunt Barb was an artist and we're grateful to still have many of her pieces. Mindy in her own right is super creative and works as a producer/project manager in advertising. Her husband Richard and she create commercial jingles. He's most famous for the Hawaiian Punch voice and Geiko lizard.
Don't let Mindy fool everyone with the out of shape thing...she was actually an aerobic instructor many years ago and knows about good eating. She's just had so much to deal with in the last few years that now she's ready to begin taking care of herself again. A very cool thing. You go Min...so proud!!!
