Seriously.
Some folks live on the lake, near the ocean, in a subdivision...and
WE have a mountain.

Never in my life did I ever aspire to actually own a mountain. It's kind of crazy. Taking on a rather interesting life of it's own. Almost like another family member.
It came with the property but when we moved in the trails had grown over so we really didn't get the feel of it's full potential. Hubby, certainly saw some potential, but all I saw were the woods AND the work. Thankfully, the ATVs and machete/chainsaw made short work of what otherwise would have been a very time consuming process. Now we LOVE the mountain!
The mountain has many uses: deer/turkey hunting (yes, stands and blinds occupy the area during those important seasons). Oodles of bright red and delicious raspberries for picking in the shady growth. Course riding ATVs is probably the most fun up and down the loopy 2000 foot slope, especially with family and friends. My personal faves are the trail runs and mountain bike fitness regimens we've created. Talk about extreme exercise! Most of the land is fenced and is perfectly safe to go on alone. A real sense of freedom.
However, probably the best part of the mountain is that it is now home to our heirloom Pawleys Island hammock.
Near the summit a natural clearing makes the perfect spot...a cool and quiet respite where we can hang out. We're even going to do some camping there soon. My aggressive plan to place benches and trail signs for invited visitors who like to hike are being thwarted by gardening efforts, but it IS on the list! Sort of a fun, personalized touch for ALL who enjoy the mountain.

Everyone vies for a hammock spot.
